I always got a kick out of this 2003 Nike commercial starring Paul Pierce and Jermaine "The Drain" O'Neal. On opposite sides during a pickup game, the two men step up to the challenge by ignorning the absolute living hell out of their teammates and going one-on-one until everybody else just stops playing. Not sure what kind of message Nike was trying to get across, other than "Just Do It (Be A Selfish Bastard)!"

Also, this would be a lot funnier to me if I hadn't been in so many pickup games that devolved into something like this...

True dat.

The first half of the clip was a fairly realistic representation of when both sides are in a slump, minus the dunking attempts. But guys don't just give up in the middle of the game like that, even if you tell them to 'clear out.'

In my experience, it boils down to just one guy, the 'ballhandler', who decides to play Kobe and take it into 5 different players on EVERY SINGLE POSSESSION. And when Kobe decides to pass, he seems surprised that the ball bounces off his teammates' face.

Personally, I have minimal problems if Kobe actually makes his shots or can out-jump everyone to grab his own rebound consistently and put it back in. But when you get a Kobe who just flat out sucks and bricks every shot, you're going to exchange a few choice words with him sooner or later. Think Jannero Pargo chucking up terrible threes early in the shotclock in the Spurs-Hornets series and getting yelled at by Peja Stojakovic of all people.

The Spurs do the same thing poking, prodding, the arm wrap, the "Who me?", etc etc
EVEN in garbage time LOL

Yet another man love submission:

To me, Pau's expression totally completes the picture. Like he's thinking, "Yesss, yessss, that's how I like to be touched." (I just grossed myself out.)

Jermaine went all kobe on that dude when he passed it too far for him to get (of course since NBA players can't do anything wrong the dude blames himself) and O'neil is pissed

"Clear out!" as in: you guys suck! now spend your time watching us ball hog.

Speaking of awful commercials and Kobe, I'd like to present my all time favorite worst basketball commercial in which Kobe and Duncan square off against each other with their posses for a rap-off, when Missy Elliot shows up to take over while Kobe and Tim play a game of one on one.

Holy hell that's an awful commercial. I hope someone at Spire lost their job for that...in 1998.

totally unrelated, but have you seen pictures of Yao Ming at Nascar? Hilarious, especially for an ethnic minority at one of the most historically white sporting events in history.

just thought i'd put that out there.

Whenever I clear the paint out, I usualy go in for the monster dunk. I pretty much clear it out ever play. That is, until the people I play with stopped picking me up on their teams. Now I just play by myself on the off court. Must be cause I'm too good for them.

I usually play Guard positions I'm never one that can just bang away and grab rebounds
6 foot guard in a pickup game LOL
not enough skills to play PG though (I think)

It's the NBA conspiracy rearing it's ugly head again. The Spurs have to beat not only the Lakers, but the NBA head office who is trying desprerately with a phantom foul here and a no call there to subtley affect the series. Only a moron would believe the NBA is not fixed...These Laker fans are no better than PRO WRESTLING FANs. The fact that the Spurs have won 4 titles is a testament to how good they are. Stern cheated for the Jordan Bulls and the Shaq-Kobe Lakers. See, you can't always fix games or affect drafts because smart people catch-on. But, just like the Bush administration, these money-hoarding Galileans are getting greedy and this situation is going to be of control soon. Kobe is a great player, but when the Lakers have the league on their side they are invinceable. And this is what we have this season. NOTICE HOW GASOL GOT TRADED TO THE LAKERS FOR NOBODIES INSTEAD OF THE BULLS GETTING HIM, WHEN THEY COULD'VE OFFERED MORE. WELL, THE BULLS WERE AWARDED #1 PICK BY THE LAKERS AS A CONSOLATION. NOTICE THAT??? HOOK-NOSED STERN SET THAT MESS UP!!!!
freeDOM OF SPEECH IS BEING SUPPRESSED BY NBA TROLL LACKEYS INFLUENCING THIS SITE. IS THIS NAZI GERMANY?
THAT WOULD BE IRONIC....................THE ISRAELITES EMPLOYING NAZI TACTICS...........OH WELL, ROCKEFELLER INVESTED IN NAZI INDUSTRY WHICH IN TURN FUELED THE HOLOCAUST....AND ROCKEFELLER WAS A JEWISH MAN. THEY ALWAYS FORGET TO MENTION THAT PART.........ISN'T THAT SICK, TO BETRAY YOUR OWN PEOPLE FOR MONEY. KINDA LIKE THE NBA BETRAYING ITS FANS FOR MONEY. SEE A PATTERN HERE?

extends 7 pt lead to 10 pt lead

the caption they had for the article "Chauncey Billups' nickname didn't fit him well lately. But when Detroit was looking to put away Boston, Mr. Big Shot's 3-pointer affirmed his good name, Chris Sheridan writes."
made it sound like he hit a gamewinning 3 pt shot
